Abstract
Volume 140 no.1
The first issue of volume 140 (the HJ was founded in 1858. We believe it to be the oldest technical journal
in continuous monthly publication) is aimed at the workbench with announcement of a new 3-armed depthing
tool from Malcolm Wild and a review of a very versatile clock timing machine. The Wild device is described
in the 'Article of the Month'.
Bob Matthys gives an analysis of the usefulness of Q, Jim Nicholson describes the restoration of a cuckoo
clock at the Tabley Cuckoo Clock Museum, Archie Perkins continues his series on Jewelling and Roy Conder
describes an auto-chime correction system in a German longcase clock. An interesting 'Profile' covers
a flamboyant millionaire clock dealer and in 'Viewpoint' a High Street retailer has some home truths for
the repair trade.
Les Bryan, chairman of the BHI Education Committee reviews the past year and speculates about the future
and the letters pages continue to make compulsive reading
