Horological Journal 1997 03

March 1997

Abstract

Volume 139 no.3

The UK launch of 'The Quest for Longitude' is featured with a two-page spread of pictures of some of the prominent horologists who attended - an opportunity to put faces to some well-known names. The book is reviewed, extensively and appreciatively, by Derek Pratt. Articles include an early look at Basel-97, a look at home-made clock timing machines by Malcolm Pipes, and the second instalments of Tim Voore's piece on the Synchronome and Bob Matthys' on Pendulum Temperature Compensation. Institute items include last year's Annual Report, minutes of the 138th AGM and the agenda for the 139th. Covers show Raymond Weil's new watch aimed at the (wealthy) youth market and a clock that wowed exhibitors at the Jewellery International show in New York.
