Description:
The clock collection of the museum in Gotha contains more than 50 objects. The collection was started
by Duke Sachsen-Gotha (1601 - 1675). Past catalogues dating back to 1659 show clocks were systematically
collected at that time. Core of the collection is the meisterstueck of master clock-maker, Wilhelm Pepfenhauser
of Augsburg, made 1674, an outstanding examples of renaissance clock-making in Germany. This is an astronomical
clock, described in great detail in the August/September issue of the journal "Klassic Uhren."
The clock shows many astronomical and calendar functions in addition to time.
Another highlight of the collection is an astronomical clock, created in 1780 by Brother Georg David in
Kornwestheim in Germany (currently not on display, due to lack of funds for a secure display case)
